TIM’S RANGERS
Our son, Tim, was an avid hockey fan. He’d practice or play hockey every chance he got. He and his friends would get together after school and on weekends and spend all their time perfecting their game. Tim played goalie on our in-town team, the Rangers, the same position as his all-time favorite hockey player, Patrick Roy. His favorite team was the New York Rangers and he knew all the players and their stats.
On April 22, 1999 Tim walked to a friend’s house to borrow some hockey equipment. He didn’t make it back home. He was struck by a car crossing the street. He was twelve years old.
Doctors and nurses did everything they could for him, but his injuries were fatal. My husband and I made the decision to donate his organs. We wanted something good to come from our loss. They were able to harvest his cornea’s and heart valves. Because of Tim, two people had their vision restored and one recipient had a heart value replacement.
We find comfort in knowing that Tim was able to help others and that they have a better life because of his donations. We think he would have wanted it that way.
Tim’s Rangers was created in his memory to bring awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation.
As Tim would have said. . .GO RANGERS
Thank you for your support, Marice and Patty Flavin
