Our son Andrew was born on July 3, 1991. Andrew's heaven date is August 23, 2008. Andrew was about to start his senior year at Brick Township High School. He was an active member in our church's youth group and was involved in local mission work. Andrew loved to play golf, lacrosse and football. He spent time at the local skate park riding his bike. He loved the Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. Andrew was also a member of the Jr. firefighter program in Brick, NJ. He was a fun boy full of life and energy and love. He laughed with us, argued with us, his presence is greatly missed. He was so loved. He had his drivers permit and was looking forward to taking his driving test in October. Andrew died from a brain injury he sustained in an accident. We made the decision to donate his organs after spending a few days in the hospital waiting for things to get better. The waiting was horrible and after we were told he would not survive, we thought of the many people waiting for that phone call that could save their life. It has become a way for us to honor and remember Andrew and all he had to offer. We know if the choice were his to make, he would have chosen the same. Receiving letters for Andrews recipients has been a huge part of healing for us. The awareness of organ donation in our friends and family has increased tremendously. They have witnessed the positive effects organ donation has had on our family. Losing Andrew is still a daily struggle for us but we have our faith and we know that Andrew is home with Jesus and donating his organs has given others the gift of life.
